FIJI GOLD MINING.
GOVERNOR'S FORECAST. i (from Our Correspondent.) SIVA. October 23. Tt is no secret that within 12 month the production figures of gold won in Fiji hiv going to soar. This was emphasised last wrek by the Governor when addressing t he Legislature. He said: "The revised estimate of the total production of gold in the cnlonv for 1!»M7 is 28.0(10 ounces, valued at ; £210.000. The estimated production for 1938. also based on figures supplied by ( llie mining companies, is 80.000 ounces, jvalned at £04.~>.000. on a basis of £7 10/ iper ounce. If this total is reached then Fiji will, in the seventh year since the (inception of mining in the colony, have reached an amount comparable with the ,19.1.1 gold production of Victoria i(1 13.940 ounces). Queensland (11.1.5.">0 louncesl. and New South Wales (lH>,7:<» jounces)."
