Mi-. Doric Laird Algie, on alighting from ii stationary train, .was knocked down by the car driven by defendant himl parried to the front platform of the tram. Defendant's cur travelled 177 ft. before it pulled up. A liuly pusHciiger wan alighting from the front platform and noticed the car knock clown Mr. Algie. She wa» just in time to step buck close to the tram to avoid being struck by the car. Mr. Algie sustained a fractured leg and was still in a private hospital.
The magistrate, Mr. W. R. McKean, 5..V1., remarked that in a letter cent by (lefcridnnt, She.wry explained that bin foot accidentally dipped on to the accelerator. "Two witnesses have said that the speed of the car was fast," added Mr. McKohii, "A driver who passes a i-ar nt a fjiHt speed and carries a man from one platform of n. tram to the other deserves to be fined on both charges brought. *' Shcwry wan fined £3 and costs, £1 7/, on the first charge and £7 and, costs, It)/, on the second.
