LOCAL BODIES.
ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL. The On«hunga Borough Council met last night, the Mayor, Mr. J. Park, presiding. Accounts for Half-year.—The balancesheet for the half-year ended September 30 was presented to the council. The accounts disclosed that the year opened with an overdraft of £8157. The principal items of expcntlituie were: Interest, principle, repayment!*, £7262; hospital levy, £1462; street lighting, £543; waterworks, £2271; street*, and footpaths, £3917; cemeteries, £180!); total payment*, with other item* of expenditure. £24.862. On the receipts side the main items were: Rate*. £16.2(16: water by meter. £2381; heavy traffic licenses. £555; petrol tax. £044; cemeteries. £153f1; total receipt/* from all sources, £24.127. The surplus of expenditure over receipts was shown ae £8802. The Mayor pointed out that two items of expenditure were the repayment of an unemployment loan of £1500, and the purchase of a business block in Queen Street for £1500. Street Collection.—The St. John Ambulance Association was granted permission to take up a street collection at Onehnnga. Tenders Accepted.—For the construction of a concrete grandstand at Waikaraka Park, the council accepted the tender of £4410 10/ submitted by T- C. Clement, of Otahuhu. A. H. Penny's tender of £32 13/ was accepted for painting at the Haletead block, the property recently purchased by the council. Street Telephone. — The council's approval was given to the placing of a telephone cabinet in Trafalgar Street by the Post and Telegraph Department. Tennis Courts.—The council decided to charge fourpence per player per half hour for each tennie court on the beach reserve, preference to be given to doubles players over singles at all times.
