W.E.A. LECTURE.
SCIENCE IN FARMING.
The need for the establishment of largescale farming on scientific lines was dealt with by speakers in the course of a public discussion by Messrs. N. M. Richmond. H. Barrington and -T. G. Locke held last night under the auspices of tlie Workers' Educational Association. Dr. R. P. Anschutz presided.
Mr. Richmond claimed that farming in Xew Zealand to-day was a depressed industry, with marketing far-tors outside the Government's control. Planned agriculture. he said, would have to he part of a general planned economy. Mr. Barrington deplored the long hours that farmers had to work and declared that it was due to the small scale of farming operations, where science could net be utilised sufficiently. The large-scale mechanised farming operations of the Soviet were described by Mr. Locke. The meeting was afterwards thrown open for discussion and a wide range of questions answered by the speakers.
