NEW ASSISTANTS.
RAILWAY APPOINTMENTS.
REVERSION TO OLD POLICY,
The appointment of five new assistant traffic managers has been announced by Mr. 0. H. Macklev, General Manager of Railway*. This is a reversion to the pre-depres*ion practice of having two assistant traffic managers in each railway district. It was discontinued by the Railway# Board. The new assistants will act as outside managers.
The appointees are: Mr. J. Sawyer, goods agent. Christchurch, to Auckland; Mr. A. L. Smith, commercial branch, Wellington, to Wanganui; Mr. A. K. Hargreaves. goods agent, Wellington, to Wellington; Mr. F. H. Raines, goods agent. Dunedin, to Christchurch; and Mr. W. E. McKay. stationmaster. Christchurch, to extra manager, Christchurch. Mr. Sawyer, who comes to Auckland, made a trip round the world with Mr. H. H. Sterling when he was chairman of the Railways Board. Mr. Macklev has also announced the promotion of Mr. F. (J. Mayes, of Wanganui, to be locomotive foreman at Frarikton Junction, and Mr. C. J. Thomas, of Hillside, to be blacksmith shop foreman at Otaliulm.
