STABLE AND TKACK NOTES.
STOLEN MARCH AT INVERCARGILL
At the conclusion of the recent Dunedin meeting Stolen March vm taken to Invercargill and will be prepared for the local meetings by T. E. i'ankhurst, * brother of J. W. I'ankhurst, of Orari, the owner-trainer of the .Night March horae. Stolen March ran quite a good'race on the second day of the meeting and will be improved the next time out.
JONATHAN'S DUAL SUCCESS. One of the most pleasing features of tha -Avondale meeting was the return to the winning list of Jonathan, >vho annexed the principal event each day. He wm ridden a patient race on both occasions, and his finishing efforts were reminiscent of the good form he showed a couple of years ago. It had taken Jonathan Rome little time to reguin his best, and W. J. McLean must be given credit for the condition in which_ he produced the aged son of Thespian. Xow that he is back to his' best Jonathan will have to be reckoned with in middle distance races during the summer months.
AN IMPROVED FILLY. After having previously shown promise, Alyth registered her Hint success when slie led throughout in tho Throe King* Handicap nt voiiilale mi Saturday. !"ilie wan the outsider of the Held, and although she had a little in her favour by drawing the inside position she run out tiie mile »u real (food style. Again on the second day she was responsible tor another wound effort when »he finished a good third in the Kia Ora Handicap behind King Theo and Ring•hot. This filly was turned out in tip-top condition by T. K. Davison, and as she is atill improving she should be seen to further advantage as the season progresses. TASK WILL BE DIFFICULT. All Irish is to fulfil his engagement in the YVnikato Hunt Cup ut Cambridge next Monday. He will be ridden by J. .VlcKae, who has been auccessful on the bay gelding on two occasions this season. Since rat ing at Kllerslie a couple of weeks ago, All Irish has done particularly well ami (ins never looked better than he does at the present time. When lie won the Hunters' Steeples at the Auckland spring mect> ing recently All Irish carried 12.0. the same imprwt that hax been awarded him at Cambridge. However, the opposition is likely to lie much stronger at the country meeting, and an tho distance ie half a mile longer his task will be more difficult. OUT OF HACK CLASS. The two successes registered by I l .)lustre nt Avondnle were achieved in very convincing style and showed that the Tea Tray tilly has greatly improved in stamina in comparison with last season's efforts. Her ability to begin quickly has always been an asset, and whereas in the past five furlongs has been nearly her limit, her success over seven furlongs in the Apprentices' Handicap with 0.7 lust Monday shown to what extent ahe lias come on. J'alustre actually earned promotion to open company by her success in the Spring Handicap on the first day, and her total stake-earning* exceed the £700 mark. She should not m hard to place to ftdyiuiUtfl in open aprint event# from now on.
