The Trump has received a 101b penalty for the Melbourne Cup, making his weight 8.5. Sir Regent ran a nail into a foot, probably during the running of the Caulfield Cup. anil it is doubtful whether he will be able to go on with his Melbourne Cup preparation. Talking's future programme is uncertain. Flood Tide, Willie Win and Wotan took no harm from their efforts in tile Caulfield Cup. Courtcraft was impressive in running nine furlongs to-day in 2.5. Hua worked nicely over twelve furlongs at Flemington in 2.47%.

SCORED ON SECOND DAY.

Among the hurdlers seen out at Avondale, the form of Englishman was easily the best. He ran a fair race on the first day, and over the longer distance of the October Hurdles, one mile and threequarters, on Monday he easily accounted for the opposition once the straight was readied. This horse is engaged in the Hunters' Hurdles and the Hunt Cup at the Waikato Hunt meeting on Labour Day, and as he i« an accomplished jumper he will have to be reckoned with in whichever event he contests.

IS DOING WELL.

Adsum lias gone on the right way since his success in the Onehunga Steeplechase and shaped well in a school over the big fences on the flat at Ellerslie on Tuesday morning. His next start will be in the Waikato Hunt Cup, and with only 71b above the minimum his prospects cannot be overlooked. Although Adsum is a proficient fencer, the Cambridge course is a tricky one, and several proved jumpers have failed to negotiate the obstacles safely in previous yeara. However, with a stand up Adsum should be one of the most likely of the lightweight division.
