DECLINE OF N.Z.'S POPULATION.
Perhaps it will interest the readers of the "Auckland Star'' to know the results of the writer's forecasts as given in his book on "Universal Malnutrition" regarding the decline of population in England, New Zealand and Australia. The maximum white births in these three countries occurred in the years 1915, 1020 and 1921. approximately, and since those years the total of births lia-s steadily declined, so that when the babies born during these declining years reach parenthood it is obvious that the populations of these countries will start declining about 1941 to 1945. In general, the critical years are when the births per marriage fall below three, and it is just the.se years when the babies born reach their peak figure. For New Zealand conditions, the critical year was reached when the birth rate had declined to 24 per 1000, which happened about 1920. The Maori population, on the other hand, is destined to rapidly incre-ase. if existing trends persist, and will outnumber the pakehas about 2010. THOMAS A. F. ST ONE. B.E.
