EPSOM TRACK.
WORK ON THE GRASS. LUMINATE'S FAST HALF. GAY SISTER PACES FREELY. The grase track, on which the polee were nearly 40 feet out, wae available for fast work at Epsom thie morning, and several useful efforts were recorded. The beet half mile of the morning wae credited to Luminate, while Marble Boy, Gay Sister and Handicapper also pleased. The track wae in excellent order. Tangaroa (C. G. Lee) wae sent two miles, and ran home in 5.5 3-5, the last half mile in -1.12 1-5. He i. in good co£ dition. Hillcrest (D. 0. Jonee) was not after time while covering a mile and a half in 3.52 1-5, the final half mile in 1.15. He is looking exceptionally well, and his turn may come on the country circuit. Dick Kedmond (A.'Newdick) did not hit out with hie usual freedom while traversing a mile and a half in 3.58, the last halt mile in 1.21. He put in two ehort eklpe, and is evidently icelinjr the etfecte of a knock he gave one of hie knees recently. Parrieh Bell (C G. Lee) was timed to cover two miles in 4.59. She ran the • "£ .. mil V n 2 ' 31 ' 1 the mile and a half in 3.43 4-5. ( a W " W,llettß J »nd Great Chum (S Au guft) were associated over a mile and a half. Great Ohum broke half way down the etraight, and Jewel Crest hung on well to ehade Worthy Quest, the distance being covered in 3.48 1-5, and the nnal four furlongs in 1.11 1-5. Jewel Crest paced very evenly, while Worthy Quest was hanging on to register 3.48 3-5. Queenie Direct (S. August) and Free Grattan (A. Cole) were practically on terms at the conclusion of a mile and a half in 3.52. Queenie Direct, who wae m benind early, running her last half mile in 1.13. • A Smart Half-mile. Marble Boy (C. G. Lee) and Bedford (F. Herring) went away ae in front of Xiuminate (J. Seagar) in an essay over a mile and a half. Marble Boy set the pace reaching the mile in 2.36, but over the last furlong Luminate ranged up alongside, and there wae nothing between the pair at the finish. Marble Boy registered 3 43 3-5, the laet half-mile in 1.7 3-5, while Bedford took 3.44 2-5. Luminate ran the dwtance in 3.39 1-5, and the final four furlonge in 1.7, the beet of the morning. It wae a good effort on the part of both Luminate and Marble Boy. Red Eagle (J. Gee) and Top Hand (S. Au 5»W jumped away from the mile and « half post, and after covering a quarter were picked up by Kewpie'e Queen (G. Hutter). Red Eagle broke on two occasions, and in a tight finish Kewpie'e Queen hung on to beat Top Hand by a narrow margin. Kewpie'e Queen ran the mile and. a quarter in 3.10, and the laet half-mile in 1-9—a good effort for a novice of her inexperience. Top Hand took 3.51 2-5 over the full distance, also showing 1.9 over the laet half. Argolie (S. August) and Petite Jewel (W. Andrews) were a%o eent a mile and a half, being joined at the quarter poet by Native Fern (W. Fleming) and John's Laet (F. Herring). John's Last led over the first mile, but Petite Jewel drew out in the laet bit, and wae timed to run the journey in 3.42, and the last half-mile in 1.11. Argolk, Who broke at the half-mile, showed fine speed over the concluding Rtagea, and just failed to reach Petite Jewel, registering 3.42 3-5. Native Fern took 3.10 for the eherter distance, while John's Laet recorded 3.7 2-5. The best workout of the morninjj was witnessed when Lucky Love (W. Willetta), Gay Sister (C. Goodall), Handicapper (G. Stubbs). Bismuth, Frank Beet (J. MeKendrick), Silver Watch (L. Mahoney) and Free Grattan (A. Cole) were partnered over a mile .and a half. Free Grattan and Silver Watch broke eoon after the start, and were eventually pulled up. Lucky Love eet the pace early, but passing the mile Gay Sister wae in charge from Lucky Love, Handicapper. Frank Beet and Bismuth. Nothing had a chance with Gay Sister, who finished full of running, and was timed to go 3.33. and the last half-mile in 1.8. She did her work well. Handicapper. who wne not unduly pressed, recorded 3.34, the final four furlongs in 1.8 1-5, while Lucky Love took 3.33. hi* half-mile in 1.9. Frank Best ran 3.36. It was a good effort on the part of the first three horses, who are in splendid order. On the Dirt Track. Munga Tangi (L. Laver) wae sent two milee. He ran the first mile in 2.23. the mile and a half in 3.34, and the full distance in 4.39 3-5. He did not appear to be pacing as freely as usual over the last half furlong. Great Sonoma (W. Willette) wae allotted two miles, and was timed to cover hie last mile and a half in 3.26, and the final four furlongs in 1.9. He trotted verf solidly. Young Rodney (L. Laver) made one mistake, while running a mile and a half in 3.37 2-5, the- last half-mile taking 1.9 2.5. He ie bearing a bright appearance.
