TRENTHAM TRIALS.

SOME GOOD MILES.

BOOMERANG AND CERNE ABBAS. SMALL BOY HOT CERTAIN STARTER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Conditions could not have been more ideal for galloping than they were at Trentham this morning, but not a great number of visitors are yet on the scene, and there was not a lot of work for ac close to the Wellington meeting. The ' plough and the outside of the coursc proper were used, the going being fast on the former and a trifle dead, aftei frost, on the latter. The distances arc correctly flagged on the course proper at Trentham. The larger trials were done on th< course proper and the best of them, from a time point of view, was probably that of Boomerang and Cerne Abbas, who ran a mile in 1.40 3-5, the half miles taking 50s and 50 3-5s respectively, with Boomerang finishing a shade in front. Cuddle and Small Boy took 1.41 1-5 for a similar trial, Cuddle, without being pushed, being a neck ahead at the post, after doing the fealves in 49 4-5s and 51 2-ss. Both these horses look very well, but Small Boy's trainer states his charge might yet miss the Wellington meeting and be reserved for the New Zealand Cup. Another trial over a mile saw Arctic King, Might, Shy, Hunting Cat and Southern Blood in association, and after Shy had made most of the pace Arctic King came through from the back and beat Might by half a length, with Shy a length further back and the other pair handy. The distance took them 1.41 3-5. the halves in 49 3-5s nnd 525. Fairy Dale finish«d resolutely to beat Rockingham by a length and a half over five furlongs in 1.9, the last half-mile in 50 3-ss, but Rockingham was star-gazing in the straight. Myriam took 51 2-5s for the last half-mile of seven furlongs. Parry and Hamarin ran half tw mile in 52 3-ss. Siegmund remained with Mother-in-Law over the closing stage of six furlongs in 1.21, the last half-mile in 52 2-ss. Raroa left half a mile behind in 49 3-ss. The plough track was used for fast trials only by the early workers, and nothing equalled Sunee's half-mile in 495, when beating Good Sun by a length and a half. Good Sun, however, was pleasing in defeat, as Sunee is very well at present. Debhatn was goijig a shade better than Royal Chief at the end of six furlongs in 1.16 3-5, the last half-mile in 51s. Tidewaiter was half a length in front of Stargone after running the last four of five furlongs in 40 3-ss. Several two-year-olds came down the straight, but there were no serious trials. Among the number were Protector. Peerless. Rakahanga. Diareus, Twenty Grand. Beanly and War Cloud. Red Sun (E. Burgess) jumped four fences in his usual faultless style. Polabian (D. W. Bush) gave his best di.nnlav vet over four fences. Blue Tiger (C. McGovem), looking well, went twice over two fences. Other visiting horses on the tracks included Brunhilde. Taro. Geira, Le Toauet. Ohnnga, Ngatirahiri. Ben Braggie, Black Thread. Tiger Gain. .Tonrnet. Anubis, Surmount and Soho, th» last-named, particularly, looking very fit.
