LOCAL BODIES.

MANUREWA TOWN BOARD. The fortnightly meeting of the Manurewa, Town Board was held last night, Mr. W. T. Cox being in the chair. Telephone Service.—ln reference to a request to have installed in Manurewa an automatic telephone exchange, Mr. J. H. Edwards stated that Departmental officials had informed him that technical difficulties made installation impracticable. The board decided to have a questionnaire drawn up and circulated among prospective subscribers, as a petition signed by two thirds of the residents ie necessary to obtain the facility. Water Supply for Residents.—The Hill Road, Alfriston and Claude Roads circuit being now connected up to the reservoir and the reservoir being practically filled up, the question arose as to the legal aspect of supplying residents within that area before the full completion of the whole work. Mr. W. Ferguson moved that the town clerk get in touch with the board's solicitor and have the position defined. The works foreman, Mr. F. Sainty, was authorised to procure 100 water meters. Christmas Xight Screening of Pictures. The lessee of Manurewa Picture Theatre was given permission to screen a suitable program me on Christmas night. Stray Dogs.—Mr. Edwards stated that he had received many complaints from residents as to damage done by stray dogs, which were obviously increasing in numbers. Members agreed that a ranger should be appointed and Mr. G. Rogers was chosen for the position. Reserves.—The board decided to clean up the reserves at Grande Vue Road and Great South Road at the railway bridge. Water Supply Ceremony.—lt was stated that the Minister of Health would be present at the official turning on of the towns water supply, which will take place on the afternoon of Saturdav November 20, at the Manurewa Town
