DEATH AT MASS.
MR. PHILIP F. HISCOCKS. As the celebration of Mass and Holy Communion was nearing its close yesterday morning at the Home of Compassion, Heme Bay, an Auckland resident for over 00 years, Mr. Philip Francis Hiscocks, collapsed and died. He was 90 years old. Mr. Hiscocks was a devoted member of the Roman Catholic Church, and was well known in musical circles in the city. For over 30 years he. was choirmaster at St. Patrick's Cathedral, and retired some 20 years ago. During his father's choirmastership Mr. Harry Hiecocks officiated as organist for 10 years. Mr. Hiscocks, senior, was formerly a teacher of the violin, and for many years, in addition to his musical activities, he conducted 'a Catholic depot in Hobson Street. He was Iwrn in Monmouthshire, and arrived in Auckland by the barque Assaye, after a passage of 117 days, in 1874. Mr*. Hiscocks died' six years ago, and the only son. Mr. Harry Hiscocks, is organist at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Ponsonby.
