THROUGH ROAD WANTED.
FROM THAMES TO TAIKVA. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, this day. "As far as the council is concerned it has done everything it could to have the road put through, so that there is no blame attachable to it," said the chairman of the Thames County Council, Mr. H. Lowe, at yesterday's meeting when a letter was read from the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, saying that he could not see his way clear to accede to the request to provide a through road from Thames to Tairua, via the Kauaeranga Valley.
The chairman stated that evidently the Minister's ietter had been written prior to receiving the council's decision, made at the last meeting, that the usual maintenance resolution should be put through in connection with the proposed road. The Minister, he said, had forwarded the letter not knowing what attitude the council was going to take in connection with the maintenance.
