A NICE TYPE. A likely sort of novice seen at the matinee meeting was Kewpie's Queen, a three-year-old filly by Peter Bingen from Kewpie. The filiy acted like a real oldstager, and her manners left little to be desired. She left the mark correctly and paced most stylishly. Kewpie's Queen looks like adding to the already good record of that splendid brood mare Kewpie, whose success as a matron has been one of the features of trotting during the past few seasons.
FRANK BEST'S PROGRESS. Although J. McKendrick haa not been overtaxing Frank Best of late the chestnut is going on the right way, and will not lack for condition when next asked to race. He was a trifle burly when first secured by McKendrick, but has lost all this excessive condition. When trained at Takanini by F. J. Smith Frank Best registered some useful performances, hut was a delicate feeder and had to be given a lot of attention. One of hie best efforts was when he won at the Auckland February meeting, and ran the mile and a half in 3.23. If he could be induced to repeat that effort he would have prospects from his present mark.
