DEATH IN CHRISTCHURCH
At her home in Brett's Road, St. Albans, Christchurch, the death occurred yesterday of Mrs. Violet Targuse, wife of Mr. A. G. Targuse.
Mrs. Tarpuse was particularly well known throughout New Zealand as a writer of "one-act plays, for which «ihe won several prizes in competitions. Several of the works from her pen were included in the publication of the best New Zealand one-act plays of the year, and when ehe visited New Zealand, Dame Sybil Thorndike was greatly impressed with Mrs. Targuse's work. She expressed the wish to see -more, and also advieed the writer to attempt full length plays. This Mrs. Targuse has been engaged on for the past year and was, at her death, working on a play with an historical setting. Short stones Avere also written by Mrs. Targuse, Jmt it is for her plnys that she is best known, many critics considering her to be among the first-rank of one-act playwrights in New Zealand. One of her first notable successes was the winning of a radio playwriting competition.
Mrs. Targuse is survived by her husband and two daughters, Misses Nancy and Joan Targuee.
