SUNNY AUCKLAND.
HOURS OF SUNSHINE.
THIRD HIGHEST IN NEW ZEALAND.
Although grumbling about the weather is a fixed habit in the city, and Auckland is never referred to as "sunny Auckland," official statements show that in August only Tauranga and New Plymouth had more sunshine than the city. The hours of bright sunshine recorded in Auckland were 183; Tauranga topped the list with 203 and New Plymouth was next with 184. Two centres which are prone to boast of their sunshine and to refer to themselves in tourist propaganda as "Sunny Nelson" and "Sunny Napier" had only 157 and 174 hours respectively.
The least sunny place during the month was Ashburton, with only 81 hours of bright sunshine. Auckland during the month was the cosiest spot in New Zealand, since the minimum temperature never fell below 39.6 degrees. In every other meteorological station lower minimums were recorded.
