TO-DAY IN CHRISTCHURCH.; ■ i QUIET BUT STEADY. CHAIN STORES FIRM. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Monday morning was quiet on Exchange but a steady tone prevailed, and some advances on hist week's closing rates were recorded. Sales of Government stocks were recorded in 1949 and 1955 issues. In the first local transactions for some time the 1949's rose 5/, to £105, and 1955's brought £104 10/ for an odd parcel, though later sellers asked £105.
Ranks were virtually unchanged, but buyers withdrew support for Commercial of Sydneya, E., S. and A.'s and Unions. Dalgetys came on the list again. The price of £10 1' was 1/ down, and the market closed sellers £10 2/, buyers £10. Uoldsbroiighs were asked for at £1 14/. Very little alteration was evident among miscellaneous industrials, Broken Hiil Proprietary and Taranaki Oilfields having the only business, the former at 6d higher and the latter at a rise of 3d, with the markets firm at the close. Chain stores had good support, buyers coining in for G. J. Coles at £4 15/3, for McKenzies at £4 5/, for Woolworths iS.Z.i at £5, and for Woolworths (Sydney) at £6 1/. Milling shares recovered a little, Lyells selling Oil up. at £2 1/4, and buvers for Broken Hill Souths offered £2 3/3. SALES RECORDED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.). WELLINGTON.
