MISS LU THE SPRINT. STEEPLES TO ST. MUSK. BIG DIVIDEND BY GOLD VAALS The feature of the opening day of the Taumarunui Jockey Club's spring meeting at Paeroa on Saturday was the sensational dividend paid by Gold Vaals who, in winning the Trial Handicap, returned his supporters over three-quarters of a century on the win machine. Mungatoon showed a return to form by scoring in the Taumarunui Cup, while Miss Lu surprised in the open sprint. During the day the totalisator handled the sum 10/, compared with £21,375 last year, an increase of £3040 10/. Later results were: — TAUMARUNUI CUP or £300.
