FOR AUSTRALIA.
ACHILLES AND LEANDER TO SAIL EARLY NEXT YEAR. Short cruises to Australian ports, with subsequent calls at southern New Zealand ports, have been approved for the flagship Achilles and her sister cruiser Leander, the two new vessels on the New Zealand station. Both will leave Auckland on January 20. ,
The Achilles, flying the broad pennant of the commodore commanding the station, Rear-Admiral the Hon. E. R. Drummond, will be at Sydney from January 25 to February 7, at Jervis Bay from February 7 to 15 and at Melbourne from February 18 to 26. On returning from Australia the flagship will visit the West Coast sounds, between March 2 and 7, Bluff from March 7 to 10 and Dunediu from March 11 to 16, and will return to Auckland for refuelling on March 19. Three days later she will go to Russell, where she will stay until March 30 before sailing for Wellington. She will remain at the capital city from April 1 to 19, returning to Auckland on April 28. The itinerary of the Leander, although she will leave and return at the same time as the Achilles, is somewhat different. She will sail from Auckland on January 20, reaching Melbourne on January 26. She will stay there until Febrnary 7 and later will observe the following itinerary: Jervis Bay, February 9 to 15; Hobart, February 18 to 24; Auckland, March 1 and 2 (refuelling); Wellington, March 4 to April 4; Picton and Marlborough Sounds, April 4 to 9; Nelson, April 9 to 12; Wellington, April 13 to 19; Hauraki Gulf, April 21 to 28; Auckland, April 28. The Leander sailed to-day on a two months cruise to southern porta, her first port of call being Napier. She will return to Auckland on December 4. The Achilles, which is to sail on November 3 for Lyttelton, will return to Auckland on December 8.
