"AND SOME OTHERS."
BUILDERS OF CIVILISATION. (By DON D. TILLIS.) TTicre is one weokncss mmmnn to nil ""'". rt is a decp-sented desire to make i in' front pnge. All want fnmo. If tln-y cannot have it, they will sloop to noloi ii'ty. That fart is responsible for much crime. All want a plaro in the sun. Pope made one of his characters say "Thus i''t rue live, unseen, unknown, thus uiilimentcd let me die; steal from the "orld, and not. a stone tell where I '"'■" r l»iv»« never known a mini like 1 ll;lt - If I were to assume siieli ii 1, ji<,t 1 i'i'y. it would not reuuire :i stone lo tell "where I lie." "nly a few individnnln are destined lo recognition. '| hey stand I,el ween the lext of us and fame. Diogenes said to Alexander, 'I. would have von stand lion, between me and the min." There are many we would like to push aside in our struggle for the spotlight, hut, they refuse to |„. moved. The si,us have destined them for position and power. They are captains of hosts, leaders of armies, directors of governments, inventors, preachers, proI'lietM, poets, painters Cuesnr, Angclo, Columbus, Washington, Lincoln, Lee Whitney, Hell, Marconi. Wright. Lindbergh. Karhart. Moody, Spurgcon, lin.oks who can hope to stand between tlm-im and t he sun ? Hut. the hope of the average man lien not, in special recognition or a niche in the hall of fame, hut in the fact that the work of the world is done largely ley those who labour behind the scenes. They make great men possible. In telling of the men of Athens who were won to Christianity by the persuasive logic of Paul, the liible record nails, "Among them was Dionysitis and some others." That's where yon and I come ia. The "some others" arc the real builders of civilisation. It was Cojlimbus and some others who discovered America. It was Washington and some others who won its independence. It was Lincoln and some others who saved the Union. Jt was Lee ana somo others who fought the valiant fight of the Confederacy. It will bo a few outstanding leaders and some others who will work out the moral and economic problems of our day and guarantee the nation's destiny. If you would "go down" in history, forget the urge to fame and join your life with somo others whose labours murk the progress of the world. N.A.N. A.
