The smallest possible hat with the largest possible trimming seems to be the common aim of milliners this spring. At lop left is a butterfly model inspired by the American mammy's turban handkerchief. The material is candy-striped taffeta ribbon. The model on right is made of navy blue straw, combined with starched white pique, representing a large feather. The creation below is a turban of black suede, trimmed with two tufts of black crossed aigrette feathers, which shoot off at a rakish angle.
