COMPANY CONVICTED.
beam fell into hold. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. On the ground that nuts had not been screwed on bolts holding a hatch beam in placc, Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., convicted the New Zealand Shipping Company on a charge, brought by the Marine Department, of having broken a harbour regulation bv failing adequately to secure the beam. The beam fell into the hold of the Durham, causing the death of a waterside worker, Gordon Manning. The penalty fixed was XI and costs.
