MANY STAGE ROLES.
SOUBRETTE IN "RUNNYMEDE." Theatrical experience lies behind Elsie Bell-Booth's portrayal of Prudence, soubrette in the colourful operatic drama "Runnymede" now being presented at Hi'? Majesty's Theatre. Four of the most memorable plays produced locally have seen her as a principal—"The Geisha" (as San). "The Belle of Cuba." "The Duchess of Dantzic" (as Lusette), and "Les Cloches de Corneville" (as Germaine). Miss Bell-Booth studied in Australia under Hugh J. Ward, and is now taking a refresher course with Robert G. Simmers, of Auckland. She has done professional work in pantomine.
Elsie Bell-Booth's soprano voice is heard in the spinning number "Alone," and in the humorous item "Thou'rt Not My Swain." interpolated m the play's most aif using scene. She sings also in the sextet ''Ding Dong." and the quintet "Let Others Take the Blame." "Runnymede" has attracted splendid "houses" for the whole of its fortnight's season. Its enjoyable music and its colourful costuming, combined with its numerous lesser points of appeal, appear to have caught the approbation of Auckland theatre-goers to a strong degree.
