DEVONPORT SHIELD FINAL.
The hockey season is drawing to a close, and Saturday's senior club matches will mark the final round of the Devonport Shield contest. Chief interest will centre on the Somerville-St. Luke's game, to be played on No. 2 ground at 1.45 p.m. St. Luke's are one point ahead of their old rivals, and the winner of to-morrow's game will not only win the trophy in the subsidiary competition, but will also win the right to play Grammar Old Boys to decide the champion of champions and holder of the Kent Cup. This match will be played the following week. Tlia other matches in the final round of the Devonport Shield competition are Papatoetoe and University on No. 3 ground, and Grammar Old Boys versus Mount Eden on No. 7 ground, both matches starting at 1.45 p.m. The annual match for the Selectors' Cup will be played on No. 2 ground at 3 p.m. This game will be between the Auckland representative side and a team selected from the "Rest of Auckland." Despite the lateness of the season, there is every indication of a keen contest being staged, and as there will be quite a number of local "stars" participating the standard of play should be very high.
