CRICKET.
SUBURBAN BODY.
ANNUAL MEETING HELD.
GOOD PROSPECTS FOR SEASON.
In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet at the twenty-third annual meeting of the Auckland City and Suburban Association last evening, the chairman of the executive, Mr. J. F. W. Dickson,. referred to the success of last season. He said that the representative team would take part in the Christmas tournament at Gisborne, and urged that senior players should give more support to the games with the Auckland Cricket Association. The Suburban Association was fortunate in having splendid umpires, but it could do with new recruits. It was expected that the wickets would be good
m the coming season, particularly at the Domain and at Victoria Park, but the shortage of grounds would be accentuated by the affiliation of a number of new clubs. Mr. Dickson welcomed new members. The proposal for one-day matches would be considered by the executive. Mr. Dickson finally referred to the possible benefit of the 40-hour week on cricket generally.
Junior club delegates are to meet on Monday week to eject three representatives to the management. A motion of thanks to the Umpires' Association was passed. Mr. E. D. Stallworthy referred to the need for attention to be given to the coaching of juniors. Subject to wickets being available the senior competition will start on Saturday, Octobec 30.
A motion of condolence in the death of Mr. E. C. Beale was passed. The election of officers resulted a» follows:—Patron. Sir Ernest Davis; president, Mr. J. Elliott; vice-presidents, same as last year, with power to add; auditors, Messrs. W. A. Cowan and F. A. Cooper. The election of officers of the executive will take place at the meeting of representatives of clubs.
