WHEEL AND TRACK NOTES.
IN SPLENDID ORDER. No fault can be found with the condition of l'arrish Belle, and the bay mare is fairly levelling in the light tasks being allotted her. Ihis mare is one of the speediest trotters ever raced in the North Island, but owing to there being insufficient races for her in her own class she has to compete with the pacers, and naturally her task is a difficult one. However, she still holds the record for a trotter over a mile and a quarter, having covered the distance in 2.46 2-5 when she ran second to Rongomai at the Auckland summer meeting two seasons ago. Although nothing definite has been arranged, there is a chance that l'arrish Belle may be taken south to compete at Addington next month. MAKING GOOD PROGRESS. The three-year-old Hillcrest is making good progress, and the novice continues to infuse plenty of dash into his tasks at Epsom. He has only had two starts to date, finishing third in the North Island Challenge Cup last February, while he was unplaced at the Auckland "meeting. Hillcrest has improved a lot as the result of his race last month, and he would only need to stay on a shade better to have prospects in the near future. Another member of D. O. Jones' stable in Mandalay is making satisfactory progress and was responsible for a nice effort over a mile and a quarter at Epsom on Tuesday. She has been given plenty of time and is now showing the benefit of the patient policy pursued with the mare.
