PROFITS OF TOUR.

APPROXIMATELY £18,000. SPRINGBOKS IN DOMINION. It is estimated that the net profit of the Springboks' tour of New Zealand will be in the vicinity of £18,000, according to a statement made by a member of the New Zealand Rugby Union. To date the estimated profits from the tour are about £55,000. From this the following items have to he deducted: —Amusement tax, £0000; grants to unions for provincial matches at 33 1-3 per cent, £9223; to the Wellington, Canterbury and Auckland Unions for Test matches at 25 per cent, £6833; expenses of the tourists from Capetown to Melbourne, from Sydney to Auckland, throughout New Zealand and back to South Africa, £15,000 —a total of £37,050. leaving an estimated net profit of £17,944. One match has still to he played, against North Auckland at Whangarei on Wednesday. The approximate gate takings at the matches played by the South Africans were:—Auckland, £4200; Combined, £1843; Taranaki, £2300; Manawatu, £2250; Wellington, £4500; :7ew Zealand, £8182; Marl-borough-Nelson, £500; Canterbury, £3500; West Coast-Buller, £700; South Canterbury, £1075; New Zealand, £9150; Southland, £1500; Otago, £3000; Hawke's Bay, £1550; Combined, £750; New Zealand, £10,000; total. £55,000.

The New Zealand Union assumed full responsibility for the team when it left Capetown, taking all the net profits ani meetinpr all the losses, exclusive of the Australian tour. The South African authorities receive no financial gain, and were faced with the cost of fitting out the players and assembling them for the start of the tour.

The Auckland Rugby Union, according to a statement by the secretary, Mr. T. W. Maben. expects to receive approximately £1000 as a result of Saturday's match.
