PORTUGAL REARMS. £700,000 Worth of German Rifles and Munitions. FIRST CONSIGNMENT ARRIVES. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 11.30 un.) LISBON, August 29. The first consignment of Mauser rifles from Germany, valued at £700,000, have been distributed to the regiments stationed in the capital. Millions of the new type of cartridges were delivered and 10,000.000 more are due on September 1. Local factories are installing plants in the hope of increasing sevenfold the output of ammunition in 1938. The total cost of the rearmament is £2,000,000.
