CLAY BIRD SHOOTING.
NORTH ISLAND TITLE. SUCCESS OF D. P. NORTH. (From Our Own Correspondent.) MORRINSVILLE, Tuesday. At the North Island pigeon shooting championship yesterday, at Morrinsville, splendid performances were registered by D. P. North (Whangarei) and W. G. Rae, of Tauranga, who is a member of the Coroinandel Club, both, shooting the possible of 17 birds. In the shoot-off of five birds Rae lost his first in a somewhat sensational manner. After his first shot the retrieving dog ran out to get the bird, which was only slightly wounded. Kae fired again at the bird, which was sitting, but completely missed. He secured his next four birds, but North got his five and won the championship. R. E. Cuthbertson (Wanganui), D. Ewing (Auckland), E.Groome (Hawke's Bay), M. Pratt (Otorohanga) and R. Farrow (Morrinsville) tied for third and fourth money with 10 out of 17 birds.
TAKAPUNA GUN CLUB.
Members of the Takapuna Gun Club i i a . vei- y enjoyable clay bird shoot at the club grounds, Barry's Point, on Saturday last. The principal event of the afternoon was a 15-bird club trophy match ,Y. as i . won outright by L. J. Henderson,- with the possible of 15 birds off the liyds mark. L. J. Henderson was also responsible for excellent marksmanship. He won three matches out of four, and scored the possible in each match, with the total aggregate of 37 breaks out of «J9. Results as follow :— ;io e j e ?"®l ril E.ve-opener.—L. J. Henderson (18yds) shot the possible and won outright; R. L. Baxter (15yds), six birds; R. H. Bartley (18.vds) and W. R. Avton (14yds), five birds each; W. Parrish (11yds), four birds. This was Parrlsh's first tryout at clay bird shooting. Seven-Bird Match.—lt. L. Baxter (15yds) and A. J. Hanigan (16yds), shot six birds each and divided the money, while L. J Henderson (17yds) shot five birds. Seven-Bird Match. —R. H. Bartley (18yds) and A. J. Hanigan (16yds) shot the possible of seven birds and divided the sweep money. R. L. Baxter (15yds) and W. R. Ayton (13yds) shot five birds each. Fifteen-Bird Match (Club trophv).—L.J. Henderson (17yds) shot the possible of 15 birds and won outright the trophy and sweep money. . A. J. Hanigan (16yds) and R. L. Baxter (15yds) were runners-up with 14 "breaks each.. Ten-Bird Match.—L. J. Henderson (17yds) shot the possible of 10 birds and won the s,w«ep money. R. L. Baxter (15vds) shot nine birds. The official opening of the 1937-38 season will take place in September.
METROPOLITAN GUN CLUB.
The Metropolitan Run Club held a trophy skeet shoot at Mangere. In the first round F. H. Seccombe won Mr. N. McCallum's trophy for the highest score on the doubles and on No. 8, breaking nine out of ten. Eight breaks were secured by A. E. Roblnxon, D. P. North, E. T. Wilson, and C. E. Hodge. Seccombe also won the silver spoon for the highest score off the gun. and P. J. Hazard the spoon for the highest scoje with handicap. The best individual returns were:—P. J. Hazard. 16 breaks, handicap B—total 24; F. H. Seccombe. 21, 2—23; E. T. Wilson, 18, 4—22; J. B. Spencer, 17, 4—21; A. E. Robinson, 20, scr —20; D. P. North, 20, scr—2o: R. G. White, 16, 3—19; C. F. Hodge, 18, scr—lß; A. L. Byrne, 16, 2—lß. Highest scores in second round :—R. G. White, 22 ; A. E. Robinson, 20; F. H. Seccombe, D. P. North, A. L. Byrne, 18.
