SMART GALLOPS.
WANGANUI HORSES. t i OOUiI'X'RAFT AND HOMILY. j I , (Prom Our Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, Saturday. Outstanding features of this morning's training operations were gallops by Homily and Courtcraft over half a mile and six furlongs respectively. The formerproved much too fast for Kehearsal and Amigo, two very promising youngsters, while Courtcraft gave a remarkably fine display of galloping. Mr. W. H. Gaisford , came over from Dannevirke to witness 1 Courtcraft's trial, and was accompanied by 1 Mrs. Gaisford, while P. Atkins was also present to ride that colt and Homily. Francis Drake (N. Caveney) was associated with Courtcraft (P. Atkins), the former jumping off with a lead of a length or so- Courtcraft quickly ran up to his companion, and then went into the lead, : the pace being a cracker. From the fivefurlong to the quarter-mile was run in 34 l-Ss. Coming round the turn Courtcraft, on the outer, nearly ran off the course, Francis Drake" taking the lead. Once straightened up Courtcraft finished in great style, and was half a length to the good at the post, his time being 1.14. S It was a fine effort, and stamps the Limond colt as a remarkably brilliant galloper. If he can be landed at the post fit and well Courtcraft can be depended upon to seriously trouble the best of his age in the Derbies, and the Melbourne Cup may not be beyond him, a e he has plenty of speed and shapes like a stayer. Homily (P. Atkins), Rehearsal (F. ' Latham) and Amigo went off together, , but the first-named wae in front in a few ■ strides, and, galloping with apparent ease reeled off the half-mile in 48 2-ss, finishing i a length and a half ahead of Rehearsal, j ! with Amigo close up. The Posterity— { Homage filly appears to be as brilliant k as her full-brother, Heritage, and it will take something much above the ordinary to beat her in her engagements in Australia. Icing (W. Rayner) and Scarf Dance (Latham) sprinted six furlongs, the former showing to most advantage, in 1.15%, the first half-mile taking 49 4-ss. Icing is look- v ing particularly well, and promises to take v a power of beating in the Wanganui f Guineas. f Entail (Latham) ran seven furlongs well ' within himself in 1.31. * Airing had Sam's Choice as a companion in a six-furlong spin, the former i a appearing to have the better of it, the s time being 1.17 1-5. ■ Relative and Imposture went 6even furlongs in 1.28 4-5, finishing together. ? Amatory easily beat Green Timber over five furlongs in 1.4. c The Wanganui Jockey Club has received { excellent entries for the spring meeting, < to be held on September 9 and 11, there • being a total of 324 for fifteen races, as 1 against 282 for fourteen events last year. 1 There appears every prospect of the ' Guineas field being a splendid one, as Rival Hit. Haughty Winner, Royal Chief, Icing, J Lickem and Relative all seem 6ure to be starters, as they claim first-day engage- J ments. An interesting entry for the . principal events at Wanganui is Cuddle. ' H. Dulieu has seven horses engaged here \ next month. i }
