LINK WITH MARSDEN.
GRANDDAUGHTER PASSES. SYDNEY, July 19. The death has occurred of Miss Elizabeth Betts, granddaughter of the late Rev. Samuel Marsden, aged 88. Miss Betts represented her family at the Marsden centenary celebrations in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand', in 1914. Rev. Samuel Marsden in 1814 established the New Zealand mission at the Bay of Islands; his last visit, made in spite of age and feebleness, was in 1837. He died in the following year.
Mr. Marsden had three sons and five daughters. Two of the daughters manied into the same family, one (Mary) becoming Mrs. John Betts, and the other (Martha) Mrs. Joaiah Betts. The latter, while still single, accompanied her father on his last visit to New Zealand. Two of her daughters, Mrs. Bloxland and Miss Elizabeth Bet"*, have long been the only surviving granddaughters of the famous missionary and agricultural pioneer of the two lands frontir? ' the Tasman.
