DASH THROUGH CITY.
FRIDAY WIGHT FIRE ALARM.
Called by an alarm in the city danger zone, four fire engines and a salvage van raced through the streets of the city at nine o'clock last night, while traffic was at its height. The brigade was called by telephone, and two machines were sent from the Central Station, one from the Western districts, and another from Parnell. A salvage van was also dispatched, but when the minor nature of the fire was discovered they all returned to their stations.
Much excitement was caused in Queen fetreet. Motor traffic ceased, and pedestrians crowded footpaths. For some time the normal passage of traffic was suspended, and crowds of people gathered at the foot of Queen Street, pressing on to the road to catch a glimpse of the four speedy engines as they dashed past with sirens screaming Occupants of the building were" ignorant of the actual nature of the outbreak for some time, and, with the smell of smoke poinjr right through the building, some were still looking for the seat of the fire when the brigades had
