PORT FINANCES. OPTIMISTIC TONE STRUCK. FIGURES FOR. NINE MONTHS. i An optimistic tone was struck in the monthly report submitted to the Auek'•iiul F[arbour Board to-day by the :i-iiivr and accountant, !Mr. C. Gar.t. receipts for June, he said, were "iike a returning tide after the .May ebb, high water being at the £34,828 mark, which was £5039 higher than for the corresponding month last year." The receipts for the nine months to Juno. 1937, were £324,118, as against j £.'iO4.i>47 for the same period in 1936, an inorea.-e of £10.471. The principal increases were: Wharfage on import poods, £4813; shipping charges, £2344; j crane dues. £9701; storage on goodrf, I £3.379; lighting of wharves, £1120. J Decreases, including £1702 for the' Admiralty subsidy, totalled £3244. The ' returns for the Mamikau Harbour ■ showed an increase of £77, making a ; total of £143 for the nine months to the end of June. Cash balances at June 30 were £95,710, which would enable a payment of interest and a sinking fund appropriation shortly to be made and provide an instalment in respect of the special works already approved.
