TO-DAY IN CHRISTCHURCH. FIRM, ACTIVE MARKETS. BREWERIES SLIGHTLY EASIER. (Bj Telegraph—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The markets were firm and active this morning on the Chiistchurch Slock Exchange, in spite of slight easing in New Zealand Breweries. In banks, E., S. and A. lost 8/, compared with sales three weeks ago. Sellers of New Zealands lowered their limits to £2 4/11, while Commercials (jiref.) looked better, with a market from £9 4/6 to' £9 7/(3. Southland Meats, in their first sales for nearlv a year, showed a rise of 11/, to £4 3/. New Zealand Breweries were 3d lower and Staples 3d lower, but buyers closed at fairly steady prices. Miscellaneous issues moved tip in nearlv all cases. Broken Hill Proprietary and Electrolytic Zinc (profs.l were both up 7d. Mining also impf-vcd. with S'ortli Broken Hills 18 higher. and Broken Hill Souths 6d up, and Mount Lyells 4d up. QUARTER REVIEWED. TRADING IX CHRISTCHURCH. UPWARD TREND AFTER SETBACK. The quarter started in a bnnin. relapsed into a speii of dullness, and weak values which verged on panic, and finished on a fairly healthy upgrade.
