SEA FISHERIES.

WIDE INVESTIGATION. SAFEGUARDING INDUSTRY. EVIDENCE IN AUCKLAND. The Sea Fisheries Investigation Committee will commence its sittings at Auckland at the Government Buildings in Customs Street at 10 a.m. on Monday next, and will continue to take evidence until all interests concerned in the industry have had an opportunity of placing their viewpoint before the committee and the committee itself is satisfied that all activities in the industry have been fully dealt with. Evidence will be taken from the fishermen, exporters, wholesalers and retailers, and also from others who may be able to submit constructive proposals for the- betterment and for the safeguarding of the industry.

The committee will inquire into and; report upon the condition and prospect of the sea fishing industry of New Zealand, including investigations into any matter relating to the exploitation and conservation of our sea fisheries; the catching, landing, treatment, preservation, storage, transport, internal and external marketing and distribution (botli wholesale and retail) of sea fish, shellfish and other marketable marine products; also the scientific evaluation, control and administration of the sea fisheries. Opportunity will be taken by the committee to look into the financial results of representative units engaged in tho trade, in order that full knowledge may be obtained of commercial operations over definite periods. Those desirous of submitting evidence are requested to communicate with the district officer of the Department of Industries and Commerce, or with the chairman at the Government Buildings. Tho committee comprises Mr. James Thorn, M.P., chairman, Mr. M. W. Young, assistant-Chief Inspector of Fisheries, and Mr. E. Sliced, of the Department of Industries and Commerce.
