HEAVIEST IN THE WORLD

LONDON, June 30.
Mr. Hector C. Bvwater, writing in the "Daily Telegraph," says that the five new British battleships are the best protected in the world. They are designed to withstand the heaviest gun, bomb and torpedo attacks. Their armour accounts for 40 per cent of the displacement.
Their speed, 30 knots an hour, compares with the Queen Elizabeth's 25. Thus the ships combine great fighting power with the battle-cruiser's speed.

Nine thousand brethren, including visitors from all parts of the Empire, enthusiastically welcomed King George when he attended a special meeting of the United Grand Lodge of English Freemasons for investiture as Past Grand Master. It was the first time a ■ King had been present at a Masonic meeting. j The King, after his investiture, was placed on the throne and thanked the brethren.
