The Rev. W. G. Bird, of Hamilton, has been appointed to take charge of the parish of Inglewood.

Mr. C. L. MacDiarmid has been elected chairman of the Hamilton High School board of governors.

The Hon. Rangi Mawhete, M.L.C.. of Palmerston Xorth, arrived in Auckland by the Limited express this morning.

Messrs. W. T. Anderton and A. S. Richards. M.P.'s, returned from Wellington by the Limited express this morning

Mr. J. R. McKenzie. managing director of J. R. McKenzie, Ltd., will leave Auckland on his return south by the Limited express to-night-

Mr. William Fletcher, of the Fletchor Construction Company, returned to Auckland by the Limited express from Wellington this morning.

The Hon. L H. Carruthers, a member of the Samoan Legislative Council, who has been spending a holiday in Xew Zealand, will leave for Apia by the Matua to-morrow.

Mr. S. P. Wheeler, of the New Zealand Insurance Company's staff at Wellington, has been appointed manager of tlie Auckland branch of the Guardian Assurance Company, Ltd.

Mr. C. E. Barnes, stationmaster «t the Auckland railway station, resumed his duties after his annual leave yesterday. He spent several days at Russell and visited the South Island.

Mr. C. Mountain, chairman of the general purposes committee of the Newmarket Borough Council, was granted six months' leave of absence at the meeting of the council last night. Mr. Mountain will leave shortly on a visit to England.

The Rev. A. Ash win, who has been in charge of the Waitara Presbyterian Church circuit for about three years, will leave next Monday to take over the circuit at Pukemiro. Mr. W. Hetherington (Pukemiro) will take over the Waitara charge a few days later.

Mr. I. F. G. Milner, M.A.. a New Zealand Rhodes Scholar at Xew College, Oxford, has beei» elected to a Commonwealth Fund Fellowship tenable for two years at an American university. He intends to go to the University of California to study international relations.

Mr. J. Parsons, a member of the staff of the Auckland Harbour Board. has returned from London, which he visited on extended leave of absence. He took the opportunity to inspect the working and facilities of the Port of London Authority, and being interested in stage work studied modern lighting and production methods.

Mr. H. F. Arson, Resident Commissioner and Chief Judge of the Cook Islands, who was recently succeeded as Resident Commissioner by Mr. S. .1. Smith. Secretary of the Cook Island* Department, returned to New Zealand by the Matua from Rarotonga yesterday to take up the position of judge of the Native Land Court.
