EARLY START.

SPRINGBOK MATCHES.

AUCKLAND WANTS REASONS.

instauung loud speaker.

At the meeting of the management committee of the Auckland Rugby Union last night it was decided to ask the New Zealand Union what factors had influenced it in commencing the Tests and prowncial matches against the Springboks at 2.15 and 2.30 p.m. respectively.

The installation of a loud speaker broadcast system at Eden Park, estimated to cost £130, was again discussed. It was contended that the cost would be recouped in two years by advertising and hiring fees. Several speakers expressed the opinion that the system would be welcomed by spectators for entertainment purposes. Mr. A. Tilley considered that it would be an unnecessary adjunct to the Eden Park facilities.

The chairman, Mr. A. A. Baker, said that such systems would be welcomed by spectators, and it was finally decided to install the apparatus. Further Consideration. A deputation from the Technical Club requested that the Auckland Rugby Union reconsider its decision to disallow the club's appeal against the action of the junior management board in penalising the club for the fielding of an unregistered player. The deputation stated that the case was similar to many which had arisen the new card system, which was in its first year's operation, and suggested that some elasticity be allowed in the interpretation of the rules for that reason. The confirmation of the junior management board's minute was rescinded and the matter referred back to the board for reconsideration.

A grant of £30 was authorised for the expenses of the Auckland teams to take part in the Northern Roller Mills annual primary schools' tournament, to be held at Whangarei.

The King Country Union's request for a match against an Auckland A side was referred to the match committee. The Training College Club's request for permission to travel to Wellington on August 14 to take part in the annual Training College tournament and to be freed from its senior grade match on that date was deferred for one week.

Permission was granted to the Suburbs senior second division to play at Rotorua on July 17, with Mr. Johnson as manager. An application for reinstatement from M. F. Constable was forwarded to the New Zealand Rugby Union for confirmation. Y. M. Bradley was regraded from senior to second grade.

The following ground officials were appointed for Saturday:—Eden Park, Mr. S. Cleal; Sturges Park, Messrs. A. Murdoch, G. White; Showgrounds Oval, Mr. S. Kirk; Avondale, Mr. G. Orrel; Northcote, Mr. D. Miller.
