PAPATOETOE BAND.
DECISION TO DISCONTINUE.
! ACTION BY TOWN BOARD. j
Following a recommendation from a meeting in committee, the Papatoetoe Town Board decided last evening upon the withdrawal of support and the discontinuance of the Papatoetoe Town Band from July 31. The minute adopted by the board stated that consideration had been given to a report submitted by the president of the band, Mr. C. J. Mahon. A meeting of past and present bandsmen had been held, and 30 questionnaires had been circulated, 18 of which had been returned. A majority of 13 had favoured the continuance of the band's activities. It was resolved that, considering the apparent waning of interest both by the public and players generally, and the present low numerical playing strength, to discontinue the band from July 31. The board decided to place on record its appreciation of the services of the bandmaster, Air. R. de Clifton, who has held that position for several years.
