SAVED BY A FALL.
N.W. FRONTIER INCIDENT. SIMLA. A dramatic account of liow a hostile tribesman near Mirali. Waziristan, tried to murder a British officer and was killed ill the attempt is described in an official report. The officer walked from Mirali to the cross-roads near at hand to see if the t I'M Hie there was being properly controlled. He watched for a few moments, when he heard shouts behind him. Turning, he saw a man approaching with his rifle in an aiming position. The officer stepped aside quickly, drew his revolver and fired, in doing so, however, lie slipped and fell. The tribesman fired at the same moment, but missed, although he was only 15 yards away. He then rushed at the offieer, who tired from a halfkneeling position and the Indian dropped dead. The remainder of the report deals chiefly with measures taken to keep the troops cheerfully occupied when off duty.
