PACIFIC STEAMERS.

SIR E. BEATTY'S HOPES. (Received 11.30 a.m.) QUEBEC, June 25. Returning from the Imperial Conference Sir Edward Beatty, head of the Canadian Pacific Railway, reports that the Canadian-Australian -shipping subsidy negotiations are satisfactory and will reach a stage shortly permitting of an agreement.

Two new steamers will be built for the service—fast, up-to-date vessels of 25,000 tons and 22 knots. Sir Edward said he hoped they would be in service within two years.
