HOCKEY TOUR.
TRIP TO AUSTRALIA.
SELECTION CRITICISED.
PROTEST FROM TAR AN AKI. (By Telegraph.—Pres" Association.) ELTHAM, this day. Strong objection to the method of selection of the New Zealand hockey team to tour Australia was voiced at a meeting of the Taranaki Hockey Association last night. A motion recording the protest was adopted. It was stated by Mr. X. O. Ebl>ett that of the l<i players chosen 11 represented the city associations. Xeither of Taranaki's two nominees was selected, yet this province is regarded as one of the strongest hockey centres of the Dominion. Taranaki met and defeated Wellington 011 three occasions. During each of the past three seasons, when Taranaki had toured, it had suffered only one loss. When the All India team visited New Zealand in 193.") Taranaki had put up the best performance of the tour, although the visiting eleven included eight Olympic representatives. Air. hbbett moved that the protest be recorded on behalf of. all country players and not Taranaki solelv. While members did not know the capabilities • of the selected players, it appeared that preference had been sliown for the nominees of the major associations, said the president, the Rev. J. A. Ryburn.
