BURIED TREASURE?
GOLD ON AFRICAN HILL VICTORIA SOVEREIGN FOUND. DURBAN, April 28. Rarrrfeling on the hillside on Easter Monday, Mr. Steve Wakeling, of Durban, who has been spending a holiday in Van Reenen, Natal, picked up a stone to throw along the track for his companion, an Aberdeen terrier, to retrieve, and was amazed to find a gleaming Victoria sovereign dated 1871. Several years ;;go a young railwayman unearthed two coins of the same date on the same hill under practically the same circumstances. Interest has been aroused by Mr Wakeling's find! There is a stron« belief that a quantity of gold stolen irom a post cart journeying between the Transvaal and Natal lies concealed in various portions of the hill* outside the village. At intervals optimists dig assiduously in the hope of striking the right spot. ■ ■ °
