RECORD DAY.

DIVORCE PETITIONS. NEARLY SEVENTY CASES. UNDEFENDED HEARINGS. Throughout yesterday Mr. Justice Smith and Mr. Justice Callan were occupied in hearing undefended petitions for divorce. Approximately 70 cases were heard, which is a record for a oneday sitting in Auckhind.

HAD DINNER WITH THEM. Giving evidence in support of his petition for divorce, Arthur Edward Shepliard (Mr. Lovegrove) said he had travelled over 200 miles to a sawmill in the depths of the King Country, and there found his wife, Rosanfca Alberta Bhephard, living with another man as his Wife. Petitioner knew the position beforehand, but made the journey to be certain. He had dinner with. them. Mr. Justice Callan: What? You had dinner with them ? The Petitioner: I had travelled over 200 miles, and felt like dinner. A decree nisi was granted. "SEEMED PROUD OF IT." "When I asked my husband if it was true he was living in a boardinghouse in Franklin Road with a woman passing.as his wife, he admitted it, and asked what l.usiness it was of mine. He seemed rather proud of it," said Doreen Victoria llubv Macken (Mr. Townshend) in support' of her petition for divorce against Cecil Arnold Macken. The parties were n.arried in June. 1933, and parted in March, 1930, because petitioner objected to her husband going out with ot.ier women. A decree nisi was granted.

ADULTERY ALLEGED. Adultcrv was the ground on which the following divorces were granted:— Patrick Miller (Mr. Nutsford) against Annie Miller and William Whylie; Loins Aaron Highani (Mr. Hart) against Alice .loan Hi-ham and Jeffery Casey; William Herbert Landon (Mr. Mason) Hualnnt Lvdia Inafrel Landon; Alfreda Onii* Benjamin (Mr. Burt) against John I'rancis Benjamin.

SEPARATION AS CAUSE. On the grounds of separation, either verbal or by agreement, a decree nisi was granted the petitioners in the following cases:—Ernest Enslie Rhodes (Mr. Baeyertz) against Lillian Edith Rhodes; George Goodwin (Mr. Aekins) against Alice Winifred Goodwin; Leonora Sycamore (Mr. Field) against Harry Sycamore; Ruby Lavinia Lucas (Mr. Aekins) against Norman William John Lucas; Philip Alcock (Mr. Snedden) against Williamina West Violet May Alcock; Irene Lucy King (Mr. Hubble) against James Thomas King; Jessie Louisa McConnell (Mr. Fitzherbert) against Walter John McConnell; Nancy Lucilee Langguth (Mr. North) against Werner Eugene Langguth; Ethel Elizabeth Mary Long (Mr. North) against Richard Durant Poole Long; Myrtle Irene Smith (Mr. Matthews) against Charles William Burton Smith; Tda Josephine McCreery (Mr. Singer) against Ernest James McCreery. RESTITUTION ORDERS. Orders for the respondents to return were made \m the pleas of the petitioners in the following cases: —Frederick William George Taylor (Mr. Haigh) against Ruby Mildred Taylor; Muriel Frances Beagley (Mr. Kirker) against' James Alexander Beagley; John Alfred Hegman (Mr. Milliken) against Dieudonnee Sissons Hegman; Gladys May Cooper (Mr. Stevens) against William Gordon Cooper; Arthur Tudor Tomlinson (Mr. Singer) against Ena Elizabeth Tomlinson. Because the respondent had failed to comply with an order to return to the petitioner, a decree nisi was granted Edna Genevieve J. Atkinson (Mr. Meek) on her petition against Shelley Byron Atkinson. A decree nisi, was also granted on the petition of Percival William Rogers (Mr. Goldwater) against Nancy Zealandia Rogers, who had not complied with an order for restitution.
