WHEEL AND TRACK NOTES.
GREAT DRIVING RECORD
When the Ameiican trainer Doc Parshall dons his silks tor the tirst time this season lie will go out with a record of having won no fewer than 5.)9 races during the past decade, a record of victories that has never before been approached ill a similar space of time by trainer in America. The record is all'-the more noteworthy through the tact that only twice during the decade did I'arshall fail to head the season's list of race-winning drivers. I'arshall Hist climbed to the top of the driving list in 1927, when lie won fifty races. During the following season he was third in the list, having piloted thirty-five winners. For the next seven years Parshall finished in front, scoring fitt.v-five in 1929, seventv-six in 1930. fifty-six in 1931, sixty-eight and sixtyseven tor the next two campaigns, fiftyeight in 1934, forty-six in 1935. and last season he was a. close second with fortveight. If he continues at that rate for the next tew' years, which would be an average of fifty-five a season, the Ohio leiivmian will bo one of the few horsemen in history who have ever driven the winners of one thousand races. PAID FALSE PRICE. Although Heather Queen had won the Beaconsfield Handicap on tlTe opening day of the South Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting, she paid more than-four-fifths of a century when she won the Winchester Handicap on the second day (states the Christchurch "Press"). On the opening dav Heather Queen started from the limit, but for this success she was penalised 48yds. In races of this class speculators usually fancy horses on the limit, and seldom is a horse which is handicapped to give away more than. 12yds strongly supported. Heather Queen's performance was of more than average merit, and on this form she will win races in much better class than she has competed in up to the present. Heather Queen is another of the very big number of winners credited to the imported Rey de Oro, while her dam, Scottish Queen, a well-known performer a few years ago. produced useful racehorses in St. Bridget (2.14 2-5) and Laplander (2.10 1-5). She was by Diadem (a son of Rothschild and Lady Tracey) from Black Angel, and was raced by the Methven sportsman, Mr. C. Xordquist. AUCKLAND CLUB. i Nominations for all events at the Auckland Trotting Club's winter meeting, to be held at Alexandra Park on June 19 and 23, will close with the secretary, Mr. A. G. Mabee. at 5 p.m. on Friday next. At the same time a first payment is due for the Great Xorthern Trotting Derbv (1937-38) and entries for the Great Xorthern Trotting Derby (1938-39).
