MT. ROSKILL INTERESTS.
RATEPAYERS' MEETING. ! In view of the general improvement in economic conditions the public works programme of the Mount Roskill Road Board had been extended somewhat 1 beyond the figure originally adopted in the estimates, stated the 69th annual report presented to the ratepayers at a meeting held in the Mount Aoskill Pub- j lie Hall last night. The chairman, Mr. C. M. McCullough, pointed out that the total revenue for the first year's operation of the board in 1869" was under £50; the 1937-38 estimates provided for a revenue of £25,380. Ratepayers had grown in number from 27 to 7150. "Despite the rise in cost of both materials and labour it does not appear that there will be any general increase in rates," said the chairman. At the beginning of the year it had been decided to commence the construction of concrete footpaths throughout the district, according to traffic requirements, wherever existing paths had fallen into a serious state of disrepair. After a year's operations the experiment had proved an unqualified success. There was an attendance of about 20 ratepayers. Several members expressed disappointment that more residents had not attended. In reply to questions the chairman said that a special meeting would be - held during June to consider improve--3 ments to number of roads in the district.
