MID-CANTERBURY REMITS. POSSIBLE WHEAT SHORTAGE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ASHBURTON, Friday. The principal remits carried at the Mid-Canterbury conference of the Farmers' Union to-day were:— "That the farmer be taxed only on his equity in his property, and be permitted to deduct from income and emergency taxes the amonnt he pays in land tax." "That the notice of the Minister of Industries and Commerce be drawn to the serious position in regard to this year's wheat sowings owing to adverse weather." It was decided to point out that if the farmer were not encouraged there would be a serious shortage »f wheat next year. Mr. L. O. Oakley was elected president unopposed.
