The former Chief of the Ogpu (Soviet Secret Police), Grigori, known abroad as "the most dreaded man in Russia," who .was arrested and tried earlier this year on charges of debauchery, and other misdemeanours, was fatally shot in his prison cell in Moscow by "his successor. Yegoff. Grigori had been given an opportunity to commit suicide but had refused. His former sweetheart, an actress named Wanda Rosendorf, tried to see him earlier. When rccognised she drewj out a revolver and shot herself.
