Busy Week at Sunshine House
Thirty-nine Clubs Apply for Registration
Dear Sunbeams—• Goodness me, what a "week it has been. Telephones ringing, visitors calling, parcels arriving, and, of course, patches, patches, patches everywhere. The first indication of this amazing week appeared on Monday morning last. When I reached the Sunshine Office a mountainous pile of letters almost hid my typewriter from sight. "Gracious," I said to Peter Pan, "whatever is all this?" "New clubs," said Peter Pan importantly. I ran through them breathlessly. New clubs they certainly were. "Coronation Club," "Sunshine Fleet," "Kia Ora Club," "St. Michael's" —all brand new names, carrying a promise of even greater days this winter for the Sunshine Campaign. And then my eye espied here and there among these new ones, names both dear and familiar. The Pixies, the ' Sunray Club," the "Cinderalla" and the "Rata," the "Odds and Ends" and the "Cosy" folk, the Karakas and the ' Merry Band." It lvas just like renewing acquaintance with very dear friends who have been absent for a short while. When letters of re-registration would arrive, I would find myself talking all about the club to Peter Pan—telling him little jokes and qvaint things that had happened at our Saturday morning meetings last winter. And / found myself anxiously awaiting Postie's every visit, and breathing a tremendous sigh of relief when he would toss a few letters carelessly on to my desk. Somehow the thought that one of these; old friends might not be returning became unbearable. Impossible to think of anyone else as the Pixies —impossible to think of the "Sunshine Elves"as other than a band of little smiling girls with big kewpies pinned to their frocks —impossible not to think of the "Mickey Mice" except as our biggest club of littles!, girls, all very jolly with Mickey Mouse badges. But one by one in they came—letters and letters, and still more letters. Sometimes in would come the captains themselves, rather out of breath, but all smiles. Hullo, Wendy. I see youve moved; many quills yet?" And then, bursting with pride, I would show the mountain in the adjoining room, and there would be Ohs! and Ahs! of amazement. I have simply no space at all to tell you about our Sunshine gifts this week• gi f ls* but already some beautiful parcels have arrived, and one wee baby has been completely outfitted. Our Sunshine ladder appears for the first time to-day congratulations to all the clubs appearing on it. Peter Pan and I will J » Watch with interest their steady climb to the top. g \m Much love to my Sunbeams' from
