MODAL AEROPLANE NOTES and General Hobbicrafts

PLANS FOR THE NEW SEVERSKY P-35 SOLID SCALE MODEL

AMAZING CHANGE IN MOFFETT REGULATIONS AT LAST MOMENT.

Aeronautic Association of America that g Wakefield Team Competition.— the weight rule would be raised from This contest will be in the nature of an two up to three ounces per square foot elimination contest with the six leading wing area. All the clubs were acquainted contestants winning the privilege of with the conditions and during the last representing the United States in the few months the elimination competitions Wakefield International Contest, which, were held and the team finally selected dll€ to the British win at Detroit last and the models shipped away by the last year, will be held at Fairey's<Aerodrome, boat that would ensure them being at Haves, Middlesex, England, on August the scene of contest in good time. States, would l>e held on June 30, July | 1, 2 and 3 (which was more or less the dates expected and prepared for), and that the Moffett rules WOULD BE PRECISELY THE SAME AS THOSE GOVERNING THE WAKEFIELD COMPETITION". This means that the weight rple must be four ounces to the square foot, with a minifnum of eight ounces weight. Therefore, the models sent are useless. All the time and trouble gone to has been knocked flat bv this very unfair last-minute chango. It is quite incomprehensible why such a stand should be taken, and you can rest assured that! the X.Z.M.A.A. is not going to take this matter lying down. As the defending country it undoubtedly has the right to be given a fair chance to retain the trophy. Every fair-minded person will admit that such is the case and we can only think that there must be some misunderstanding to cause such an action. The X.Z.M.A.A. has immediately entered an official protest and demanded that the matter be rectified by: — (a) The contest being run under the rules as notified previously. (b) The contest being postponed until new elimination trials can be run and a new team of models picked and sent over. I do not pretend to be a lawyer, but I would say that by every law of equity this last minute change is out of order, unfair, and that the protest entered could be legally upheld. In a contest such as this, however, no one wants to bring such actions to bear on what should be a sporting fixture and we can only hope that our American friends will see the error of their ways and take immediate steps to rectify the position. In the meantime the trophy itself has | been sent back to America, but is being | placed in British hands with orders not

object, after flight, or until passing out of sight of the judges. Each model must rise from the ground from a standstill entirely under its own power, transmitted" by the propeller or propellers, no push whatever permitted. Each entrant shall be allowed three attempts during the competition; the average duration of three attempts to be counted. When called by the judges each model must be ready for flight within three minutes or the entrant will be liable for disqualification in that round. Minor adjustments may be made between competition flights, but trial flights can only be made with the permission of the judges- This contest is unlimited as to age of contestants and is for fuselage " rubberdriven models. The rubber motor must be concealed inside the fuselage and the fuselage must be fully covered and conform to the formula (Overall length of model squared 100) area of maximum cross section."
